Llandudno Magistrates' Court.
A 25-year-old shoplifter filled a supermarket trolley with £738 worth of items to give his family a happier Christmas, a court heard.

Among the items were drink, food, perfume and a vacuum cleaner.

Wayne Barry Williams, of Kingsley Avenue, Maesgeirchen, Bangor, who had a string of previous convictions, admitted the December 22 theft from ASDA Llandudno.

He received a twelve-month community order with supervision, drug rehabilitation and 140 hours unpaid work.

He must also pay £145 costs.

Prosecutor Tracey Wilingham told Llandudno magistrates that Williams had been approached by security staff at the town’s ASDA store and police stopped a car in Madoc Street when he was arrested.

The goods were recovered.

Defence solicitor Nia Dawson said his family didn’t get luxuries at Christmas and Williams was going to help them.
