The four people arrested in connection with a fire at a South Wales primary school were teenage boys, three aged 14 and one aged 15, Gwent police have confirmed.
Dozens of firefighters were called to help put out the blaze at Coed Eva Primary School,Cwmbran , which broke out in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
As day broke on January 1, a devastating scene of the charred shell of a building which contained classrooms for reception, year one and year two emerged.
Gwent Police arrested four people later that day and on Monday confirmed they were all teenagers.
On Monday, a spokesman for the force said: “Four teenage boys, three age 14 and one age 15, all from the Cwmbran area, have been arrested on suspicion of arson, and released on police bail pending further enquiries.”
The news comes as a meeting between headteacher Gill Ellis and representatives of Torfaen council , including councillors, took place on Monday to finalise a plan on the reopening of the school and what can be done for pupils in the meantime.
Meanwhile, almost 200 people have donated to an online fundraising page which seeks to raise money to replace some of the items lost. More than £3,110 has been donated.
