A MAN who had asked a judge to be sent to prison so he could get help with drug addiction has been sent down.
Ricky Davies, of Glan Aber Terrace, Rhosrobin, admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance twice in nine days.
Wrexham Magistrates heard Davies, 30, had been banned from driving in 2013.
On August 17, police officers saw Davies driving a Renault into the car park of the Queensway sports complex.
They stopped him on the Holt Road and asked him if he had a driver’s licence, to which he replied “it’s being sorted”.
Officers asked for clarification and he admitted that he was disqualified.
On August 25 he was stopped again by police after they saw him driving a Fiat Punto erratically.
When officers spoke to him he gave a false name and they asked him to perform a breath test, which was negative.
Due to the nature of his driving, officers decided to carry out a drug test.
As they were waiting for the kit it became clear to them the driver was Ricky Davies and he was taken into custody.
Justin Espie, prosecuting, said when asked to give a specimen, he said he wanted to go back to sleep and that he wasn’t bothered, it was just another six months in jail.
David Matthews, defending, said: “He has for many years past been stuck in a cycle of drug abuse, but to his credit he has made strenuous efforts to wean himself off opiates and cocaine to which he has been addicted.
“These offences were not through drug use, they were spur of the moment where he was trying to help friends.”
Davies asked to address the court, saying: “Last time I was brought to court I asked the judge to send me to jail because of the problems I had.
“I have done courses to rid myself of this illness. I asked for a custodial sentence because I am at the end of my tether.”
Magistrates sentenced Davies to 40 weeks in prison.
He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £115.
