The RSPCA is urging people to contact them after a video emerged appearing to show a pony being whipped and kicked.
The video was posted on Facebook. It shows a woman riding the pony next to what looks like a stable block.
After the horse bucks, it appears to be repeatedly struck with what looks like a whip, before a man appears to kick it twice.
A spokesman from RSPCA Cymru said: "We are aware of this alleged incident, and would urge anyone with further information to contact us.
"Members of the public can contact our 24-hour Cruelty & Advice Line on 0300 1234 999, to report cruelty or an animal in distress. Calls are treated in confidence."
Lisa Durham, of Dyffryn Tywi Equine Clinic in Nantgaredig, Carmarthenshire, said: "What this sickening video shows is not any sort of training.
This video contains footage and language some people may find upsetting
"The only result would be to make the pony frightened and resentful of people and potentially (and understandably) aggressive towards them, which, as he is presumably intended to be a child's riding pony is the worst possible outcome."
