Rustlers have stolen 100 sheep from a farmer’s field.
The theft was reported in Pennal near Machynlleth yesterday, although the raid could have happened weeks or even months ago.
North Wales Police are investigating.
This is the second theft of sheep reported from the same area in a matter of weeks.
Sergeant Rob Taylor, of the force’s Rural Crime Team , said: “This is organised criminality and the thieves need to know what they are doing and have the means of disposing with a large amount of sheep undetected.
“They have to have a knowledge of farming and sheep, so we ask the public for their help in assisting the rural crime team with information”.
The team have called an extra meeting today to discuss the issue.
They will be tactically looking at investigating the issue of sheep thefts with the farming unions and livestock markets.
Last week, the Daily Post reported how seven sheep had been brutally killed in horrific dog attacks on Anglesey.
The animals were all savaged in a field near Rhosneigr over a month-long period.
North Wales Police are appealing for information in tracking down the dog responsible and its owner.
