A WREXHAM man who had been targeted by a vigilante group posted a threatening Facebook message aimed at one of his neighbours.
Keith Williams, of Cefndre, took to the social networking site on October 26 to provoke a reaction from Ryan Lloyd, a householder from across the road, Wrexham Magistrates Court heard on Monday.
The insulting message made threats towards Mr Lloyd, saying one of them “would be going to prison for a long time”, followed a potential fight.
Prosecutor Helen Tench said: “He intended Mr Lloyd to see the message and he wanted it to cause distress and wanted to provoke a reaction to confront him.
“He wanted to cause distress and anxiety.”
Laura Preston-Heyes, defending, said Williams, 53, had been targeted by a group named ‘Caia Park against Paedophiles’.
She said Williams was not, and never had been, a paedophile.
“There is a vigilante group going on, trying to get him out of Caia Park,” she said.
“He has had 11 smashed windows on his home and paint thrown on his car.
“Since he posted this message on Facebook, things have got better.
“He wanted, at the time, to cause some concern.”
Williams was given a total of £325 in fines and costs and ordered to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work.
