Cardiff,South Wales - Woman, 97, forced to flag down passer-by after man disconnects her phone during Cardiff robbery

Police are investigating a robbery at a property on Pantmawr Road in Cardiff

Police are investigating after a man entered a 97-year-old woman's home in the early hours of the morning and tried to forcibly remove the rings from her fingers before demanding money

A 97-year-old woman had to flag down a passer-by after a man disconnected her phone during a robbery at her home in the early hours of the morning.
Police said the suspect also tried to "forcibly remove the rings from her fingers".
The robbery happened at around 1am on Saturday at a property in Pantmawr Road inRhiwbina , Cardiff .
South Wales Police said the woman was asleep in bed when the suspect entered her home and demanded her jewellery and cash.
Detective Sergeant Chris Grey of Cardiff CID said: “This was a shocking incident against an elderly lady in her own home.
“The suspect has tried to forcibly remove the rings from her fingers and then waited while the woman used her chair lift to get downstairs where he demanded money.
“He then disconnected her telephone, resulting in her having to go outside to flag down a passer-by to get help.
“A full investigation into this incident is continuing and we are doing everything we can to trace the person responsible.”
The suspect is described as being a young white male, wearing a black scarf, dark anorak and jeans
DS Grey added: “I would urge anyone who knows the suspect to give them up for the sake of this elderly victim who has been subjected to a terrifying ordeal.”
Rhiwbina Councillor Jayne Cowan said: "This is absolutely dreadful and it is a huge concern to hear that they even went to remove the jewellery from her fingers.
"We need to make sure we are extra vigilant running up to the Christmas period to reassure residents and I will be contacting the police immediately to know more about this."
