South Wales Police detective inspector Andy Paddison, said: "I would like to reassure the community that incidents like this one are almost unheard of in this area and we do not expect a re-occurrence.
"It was a nasty robbery and I believe those responsible are from the area. They have acted with total disregard for the importance of the shop to people in the village and absolutely no care for the welfare of the poor victims who have been left traumatised by what they have been through.
"Somebody will know something and I am urging them to do the right thing by their community and call us. We are following up a number of lines of enquiry and we have released CCTV of the two suspects in the hope that somebody may put two and two together."
