A DAD has denied the murder of his two-month-old baby son.
Sean Michael Mullender, 22, of Bryn Lane, Connah’s Quay, appeared at a plea and directions hearing at Mold Crown Court on Friday before Mrs Justice Nicola Davies, who conducted the hearing via a live television link from Cardiff Crown Court.
He is charged with murdering his son, baby Daniel John Mullender, in October 2014.
Mullender pleaded not guilty to the charge and the case was fixed for trial on April 6 next year.
Leighton Hughes, prosecuting, said it was anticipated that seven expert witnesses would be giving evidence, including pathologists on behalf of the prosecution and the defence.
John Hedgecoe, defending, listed the medical witnesses who were due to give evidence for the defence and the judge ordered that they serve their reports on the prosecution by the end of January.
A pre-trial review will be held in February.
The trial is expected to last four weeks.
Mullender, who had previously been bailed to an address in Portsmouth, was remanded in custody.
On Thursday, October 2, 2014, North Wales Police were contacted by health officials concerned about the circumstances under which a two-month-old baby boy was admitted to the Countess of Chester Hospital from his home in Connah’s Quay.
The child was transferred for further treatment to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool where he died on Saturday, October 4.
