Police are today continuing a murder investigation after officers found what they believe to be human remains in the grounds of a block of flats.
This morning police confirmed that the body had been concealed in plastic wrapping.
The discovery was made at around 1pm yesterday when officers were called to the Trem-Y-Cwm House flats in Beddau , near Pontypridd , at around 1pm.
The body was found above ground, but concealed in an outside area at the flats.
There is still no news on the identity of the body this morning, but police are standing guard at the entrance to the flats and a police tent can be seen down the side of the building.
Officers are currently trying to identify the male body and to determine the time and cause of death.
In a statement this morning, Detective Superintendent Paul Hurley, of South Wales Police, said: “The death is suspicious and we are treating it as a murder.
“A priority for us is to identify whose body it is and to find out how he died.
“We would appeal for anyone who has concerns for the welfare of a male friend, relative or neighbour who has, uncharacteristically, not been seen or heard from in a number of weeks to get in touch with us.”
A police cordon has been set up and the scene is being preserved.
Forensic examinations are being carried out to determine the identity of the body and a Home Office Post Mortem examination is also due to be carried out today try to establish the cause of death.
