THE target of a career criminal jailed after a spate of burglaries has hit out at lenient sentencing.
Anthony Beard, of Heol yr Eglwys, Gwersyllt, was jailed for 22 months by Judge Rhys Rowlands at Caernarfon Crown Court on Monday after admitting three burglary offences.
But Adrian Filer, of Moss Road, Moss Valley, said Beard should have been locked up “for at least five years”.
Mr Filer said the burglary had left his family feeling unsafe in their own home and had forced him to fork out thousands of pounds to improve security measures.
He said: “The knock-on effect is that I have got to put steel fencing around my home and that will set me back about £2,500. CCTV cameras have got to go in as well – that’s not cheap.
“Over the course of five weeks, my shed was broken into three times. My trailer, which is on my drive, had all the stuff stolen out of it.
“I worry every time I walk down the stairs because I’ve heard something in the night.
“If people break into my home, I will defend my family to the full extent of the law.
“No one should be made to feel like this in their own home. The sentence is too lenient. He is a prolific offender and should have got five years without parole.”
After the sentencing Wrexham rural inspector Jackie Downes, of North Wales Police, said: “It is important the
criminal justice system imposes strong sentences on those people in our communities intent on disrupting the lives of the vast majority of law-abiding citizens.
“Beard is a prolific offender and his sentence will I’m sure bring a degree
of relief to many in the local community.
“I welcome the sentence and hope it will provide the public with some reassurance and make our communities safer.”
