INVESTIGATIONS are to be launched into leaks at Porth Eirias after the £3.9million watersports complex let in water earlier this year.
The upcoming investigation was announced by Conwy County Borough Council, which confirmed water had entered the building earlier in the year - understood to be from the roof.
A spokesperson for the council said: “Earlier this year we were seeking advice about some water ingress at Porth Eirias.
“There have been no major instances since then, but we’re continuing to monitor the situation.
“We intend to carry out more detailed investigations in the New Year, but we don’t expect this to impact on the operation of the building.”
Clwyd West MP David Jones called on the council to confirm that any defects in the building and resulting works would not impact on Conwy taxpayers.
He said: “Given that Porth Eirias is such a new building, I assume that the council will have the benefit of builders’ guarantees, so that the defects will not involve cost to the taxpayer.
“However, it would be helpful if the council could confirm that that is the case. It would also be helpful to know what assessment has been made of the likely extent and duration of the remedial works.”
Conwy County Borough Council responded: “It goes without saying that the Council took all reasonable steps to ensure that proper contractual arrangements are in place with those responsible for the construction of the building and any remedial works, if required, will be undertaken against that backdrop.
