EIGHT budgies were mysteriously found dead on a street in Abergele.
Sue Davies, manager of North Clwyd Animal Rescue charity shop in the town, was shocked to find the dead birds - scattered just metres apart - on Market Street.

The grim discovery happened on Saturday between 11am and 11.30am. The caring worker collected the birds and buried them.

Sue said: “It was very sad and odd. They were fully grown budgies. I thought with the weather and strong winds - maybe that was the reason or if it was somekind of sick joke. I don’t like to think. Budgies shouldn’t be out in the winter. They need warmth.

“It worries what has happened, it disturbs me. They were dotted about 20 metres apart.

“I can’t think where the budgies have come from, they were all over market street. I collected them up and buried them. I couldn’t just leave them, there was little children about so it was upsetting.”

The RSPCA said they weren’t aware of the incident, but encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson for the animal welfare charity added: “It is not clear at the moment how these budgies died. The recent drop in temperatures and increased winds may have been a factor but it is too early to tell at this stage.

“We would urge this member of the public or anyone with any information to call us on 0300 1234 999.” Those concerned about the welfare of any animal should telephone the above number. Calls are confidential
