A MAN told his wife he would kill her and her family when he threatened her with a bow and arrow at their then home in Three Crosses.
Peter William John May, now of Primrose Bank, Bryncoch, confronted partner Justine May at the home they jointly owned on Gowerton Road on January 17.
May, aged 49, had denied an assault charge, resulting in a trial at Swansea Magistrates Court.
The court was handed a report explaining that May had been intoxicated at the time the pair became involved in an argument, and that he had become aggressive.
He had then produced the bow and arrow and pulled back the string as he threatened her.
He said he would never have let the bow go and 'I would have hit the chair anyway', the Swansea court heard.
Mitigating, Steve Harrett said: "This must have been a very difficult set of circumstances. They were both living in the accommodation, and it must have been difficult for both parties.
"He accepts he is not going back to the property to reside. This is a difficult time for both parties, and the relationship is fairly acrimonious".
Sentencing May to a 12-month community order with a £100 fine, chairman of magistrates Alun Williams said: "You must not contact [Justine May] unless through solicitors for [discussions] the jointly owned building or divorce proceedings".
He was also made subject to a restraining order, to last for two years, and ordered to pay £500 costs, and a victim surcharge of £85.
