Firefighters battled the blaze for more than three hours
A blaze covering 50 hectares - the size of around 50 rugby pitches - was deliberate, according to the fire service.
Fire crews were called to the "well alight" grass fire in Tonypandy at 6.49pm.
Crews created a fire break to stop the spread of the fire, which was near the Tonypandy Community College.
The crews had to stop their efforts due to difficult terrain and conditions, but a South Wales Fire and Rescue Service ( SWFRS ) spokeswoman said there is no danger to life or property.
The SWFRS spokeswoman added that the fire was deliberate.
A stop message for the incident was sent at 22.12pm.
