Derek Coulton described the men, who stole cash and cigarettes after threatening a staff member, as 'scum'
A man who gave chase after knife-wielding robbers raided a Denbighshire shop has described how they threatened a staff member as they grabbed cash and cigarettes.
The men who targeted the Lifestyle Express store on High Street in Dyserth were described as “scum” by Derek Coulton, the landlord of the nearby Bodunig pub.
Three men are said to have gone into the shop at about 10.15pm on Saturday. The shop worker was said to be shaken but OK.
Mr Coulton said: “Three men with knives burst into the shop, ran behind the counter, and grabbed cigarettes and the money out of the tills, throwing them everywhere.
“They threatened the shop assistant with a knife.
“They ran out the shop, ran around the corner by the school, jumped in a car with no lights on and drove off.
“We tried to go after them but we were on foot and they were in a car. We couldn’t catch them.
“They are just scum. Obviously they have sat and watched and waited for nobody to be in the shop and run in.
“A young man on his own and they threatened him with knives. The staff work hard. It’s just a horrible thing.
“He’s very shook up about it. The blades were at least eight inches long.
“A similar thing happened roughly about 18 months or two years ago.”
North Wales Police have asked for information about three men in dark clothing or a dark-coloured vehicle in the area.
A spokesman said: “We would like to hear from anybody who may have seen three males in dark clothing or a dark-coloured vehicle in the area of High Street and Thomas Avenue, near to the junction with Maes Y Foel at or around 10.15pm.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference number V041852.
