Connah's Quay,North Wales - A flasher who claimed manhood was 'trapped in waistband' jailed

Robert Wyness had denied exposing himself three times, even though he was caught on CCTV unzipping his flies

A pervert who left two shop workers traumatised by repeatedly flashing at them has been jailed.
Robert Wyness had denied exposing himself three times, even though he was caught on CCTV.
He had gone into a shop, where a woman was working alone at night, and exposed his penis over the top of his jogging bottoms.
He had also harassed the other woman, as well as flashing at her too.
But when arrested he claimed that he had lost sensation in his penis since he had chemotherapy, and that he might not have realised it had become trapped in the waistband of his tracksuit pants.
But CCTV showed him exposing and touching himself, and on one occasion it was clear that Wyness, 51, had lowered is flies before approaching the till.
When challenged by probation officers how his own children would like it if someone had done the same to them, Wyness said they would laugh it off.
At Mold crown court today, deputy district judge Andrew Jebb said: “You chose to single her out for your own sexual gratification.”
Judge Jebb said that he had read a number of references which spoke highly of him, but he said that one which sought to persuade him that he had been wrongly convicted was not helpful.
Another reference which alleged that one of the complainants was simply after compensation was particularly distasteful and was not appropriate.
There were concerning aspects about his attitude in the pre-sentence report, and he was thought to pose a risk of reoffending.
Peter Barnett, defending, said Wyness was a man of previous good character and given his personal mitigation, suggested that a suspended prison sentence would be appropriate.
The probation service could address any issues he had.
He had returned to work on light duties after being treated with chemotherapy and his wife was also ill.
Mr Barnett said Wyness had to suffer the stigma as a result of his case being reported in the media.
But Wyness, of Wepre Lane in Connah’s Quay , was jailed for six months and told to register as a sex offender for seven years.
A restraining order will also stop him from approaching his two victims, or the shop they work at, for 10 years.
The location of the shop cannot be revealed for legal reasons as it could identify the victims of his crimes.
