A mum accused of glassing her best friend of 30 years at an Anglesey pub was warned by a judge, on Friday, that she could have “blinded” her pal.
But Yvonne Davies, 46, of London Road, Holyhead, a restaurant worker, received a six months suspended jail term with a rehabilitation activity ordered.
She must also do 150 hours unpaid work after admitting assault causing actual bodily harm on Wanda Griffin, 43, described as her “rock.”
Prosecuting counsel Simon Mintz said at Caernarfon crown court that on the night of January 30 they had been drinking at a Holyhead pub.
But Davies interfered in a family row involving the victim and smashed an empty pint glass in Wanda Griffin’s face.
Mr Mintz said the victim fell to the floor and her face bled heavily. She needed stitches and was upset.
Elen Owen, defending, said there was remorse and shame. Davies had written a letter to her pal, reinforcing her feelings.
The barrister said Davies had been under stress and the victim had been her “rock.”
Judge Huw Rees said Davies couldn’t cope with how much she had drunk and she did “something terrible.”
The consequences could have been devastating but, luckily for Davies, there were only superficial cuts to the face.
Judge Rees said he would be entitled to jail the defendant “but there’s persuasive mitigation here.”
He hoped the victim would be able to forgive Davies.
