Llangollen,North Wales - Firefighters tackling huge gorse blaze near Llangollen

Four pumps, incident command and off-road vehicles are at a hillside in Llantysilio

Firefighters have been tackling a huge fire on a mountainside near Llangollen today.
Four fire engines, an incident command unit and two North Wales Fire and Rescue Service off-road vehicles were called to Llantysilio after a blaze broke out just after 3.50pm.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown but it is understood to involve gorse and bracken.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service could not at this stage confirm the size of the area affected but described it as a “large incident”.
Crews remain on the scene tonight to monitor the blaze but said fire fighting had come to a halt due to darkness making it unsafe to continue.
A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called to a fire on a mountainside at Llantysilio near Llangollen at 3.52pm. We have four pumps in attendance, an incident command unit and two off-road vehicles.
“We still have a watch at the scene who are monitoring the situation but it has become too dark to continue safely.
“We have had a busy day with fires in the open and small gorse fires and have attended several incidents across the region.”
The fire service have been called to a number of gorse fires in the region today.
Crews were called to a blaze involving 280sq m of bracken near the railway line at Carrog Road in Carrog in Denbighshire at 3.55pm.
They also attended a small gorse fire on a hillside in Bryneglwys at 8.15pm and another blaze involving 1,000sq m of gorse in Caernarfon earlier.
Firefighters also tackled a blaze spanning 1,000sq m of gorse and grass in Brynrefail, Gwynedd.
