The vehicle was found burning in Pentre Mawr Park in Abergele
A car that was abandoned in a park and then set alight was stolen, police have revealed.
North Wales Police are appealing for information after the vehicle was found on fire in Pentre Mawr Park in Abergele on Monday night.
Firefighters were called to the cricket pitch in the park to put out the flames at around 11.30pm.
Denbighshire Coastal and Abergele Local Policing Team said the car was stolen from Denbigh and are appealing for information about how it ended up in Abergele.
They said that they had been “inundated” with vistors to Abergele Police Station who reported the burnt out vehicle and also received several calls to the non-emergency police line on 101.
The team posted on Facebook: “This vehicle has now been identified as a stolen car from the Denbigh area which had been abandoned and set alight last night on the Cricket Pitch in the park - Council are aware”
Fire crews used one hose reel jet and one set of breathing apparatus to extinguish the burning car.
The blaze caused 90% fire damage to the car, according to North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We were called to a car fire on Dundonald Avenue in Abergele.
“The cause is believed to have been deliberate ignition and there was 90% fire damage to the car.
“We used one hose reel jet and one breathing apparatus during the incident.”
