A man attacked his girlfriend in a row over drug money.
Stephen Kenneth Jones, 26, assaulted Kayleigh Ellen Miles in Lord Street, Wrexham, on December 12.
Jones had already pleaded guilty at a hearing on January 3 to assault by beating, obstructing or resisting a police officer and commission of a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge.
Jones, of Y Wern in Caia Park, told probation officer Rachel Woodcock before a sentencing hearing on January 4 that he had used legal highs before his arrest and made a guilty plea to get help for his drug use.
He added he could have made a not guilty plea as he claimed CCTV cameras did not capture the incident.
Jones was angry with Miss Miles on the night in question as he could not get money for drugs and said unless he got help he would continue to offend in this way, Miss Woodcock told the court.
He showed no remorse, the court was told.
Miss Woodcock said Jones posed a high risk of harm to Miss Miles.
The officer expressed concern Jones intended to return to live with his girlfriend. She added Jones had been diagnosed with ADHD but had stopped taking his medication.
Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, said Jones was captured on CCTV assaulting Miss Miles and then obstructed the police officer who attended.
She said Miss Miles did not wish to make a complaint.
Jones was in breach of a conditional discharge imposed in August for damaging Miss Miles’ iPhone.
Andy Holliday, defending, said Jones was at least showing some willingness to address his issues.
District judge Gwyn Jones said Jones had assaulted his partner in a public place because he wanted some Black Mamba.
He added Jones’ drug use was having a “significant impact” on his life.
He sentenced Jones to 120 days in prison for the assault, a week for obstructing the officer, and two weeks for the criminal damage, to run concurrently.
The sentence was suspended for two years.
Mr Jones also imposed a 30 day rehabilitation activity requirement, attending a Building Better Relationships programme of up to 35 sessions and a six month drug rehabilitation requirement.
He must pay a £115 statutory surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
Jones, who appeared from custody, cried when the judge passed sentence and said ”thank you”.
No compensation was awarded to Miss Miles as she had not complied with the police or prosecution.
The judge warned Jones about the suspended sentence, saying: “If you breach it there will be one person you can blame – that will be you.”
