ST Asaph,North Wales - Lagoon filled with animal waste blamed for alleged 'stench' at nearby St Asaph caravan park

Lyons Eryl Hall Caravan Park reject the allegations made by caravan owner, Danny First

A man who splashed out nearly £30,000 for a caravan in North Wales was horrified to find a huge open lagoon filled with animal and food waste had been dug into a neighbouring field.
Danny First has demanded a refund from the Lyons Eryl Hall caravan park in St Asaph after visiting to make his caravan secure for the winter and finding the massive trench.
It is estimated to be around three quarters of an acre in size and around 20ft deep, and has been dug on farmland around 200 yards from the park.
It is filled with anaerobic digestate, which is used as an energy source.
The owners of the caravan park insist there is no smell from the pit, and that they has been assured that the farmer has been given all the relevant permissions for the lagoon.
Mr First said: “I think the owners of Eryl Hall have a duty to ensure their customers are able to have the enjoyment of their holiday home.
“Around 400 caravan owners are going to arrive in March to this horrendous stench, having already paid their site fees for the year.
“We have requested a full refund for our caravan and our pitch but so far, our requests have been rejected.”
The farmland is owned by Williams-Wynn Estates.
Property consultants Carter Jonas, acting on behalf of the landowners, told the Daily Post: “We have noted the concerns which have been raised in relation to the lagoon and will review as appropriate.”
A spokesman for Lyons Holiday Parks said: “Lyons Holiday Parks is aware of a complaint as made by Mr First concerning a pit that has been dug on adjacent land by a local landowner.
“It is said by Mr First that there is an odour originating from the pit.
“Lyons Holiday Parks does not accept Mr First’s allegation. If there was an odour then Lyons Holiday Parks would take all necessary steps to protect the interests of the Park users whilst preventing the continuation of the alleged nuisance.

“Lyons Holiday Parks have made enquiries with the landowner and they have been assured that the landowner has obtained all the relevant planning permissions relating to the pit. Lyons Holiday Parks have put in place a system to monitor any further activity at the park in respect of the pit.”
