Anglesey,North Wales - A farmer forks out £500 after assaulting young woman in pub toilets

Gwion Llyr Jones, of Ty’n Lon, Holyhead, who also works as a labourer, had denied a charge of sexual assault on a woman

A farmer has been ordered to pay £500 in fines and compensation after admitting assaulting a young woman in the ladies toilets of a Holyhead pub.
Gwion Llyr Jones, of Ty’n Lon, Holyhead, who also works as a labourer, had denied a charge of sexual assault on a female and had been due to stand trial at Caernarfon Crown Court .
But just before a jury was chosen the court heard a guilty plea to a charge of common assault would be acceptable to the woman.
Fining him £250 Judge Huw Rees said: “She was entitled to go into the pub without being molested by you.
“It was unnecessary and invasive and had an effect on her.”
Jones, 26, was also ordered to pay £250 compensation to the woman.
David Mainstone, prosecuting, offered no evidence on the original charge and the judge ordered that a not guilty verdict be recorded.
Mr Mainstone said the incident happened at about 11.30pm on May 20 last year.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had gone to the Stanley Arms pub with a friend and had seen Jones drunkenly trying to pull women onto the dance floor.
“She had gone to the toilet with her friend and they found a man there who she recognised as the defendant.
“They told him he should not have been there and he reached out and touched her.
“They locked themselves in a cubicle and later emerged and she told her boyfriend who called police.
“Before officers arrived the defendant walked over to them and when challenged about what had happened was dismissive,” Mr Mainstone said.
When arrested Jones told officers he had simply brushed past the woman with his hands raised.
James Coutts, defending, said Jones had drunk a considerable amount of alcohol that evening.
He asked the judge to take into account that Jones had no previous convictions and suggested the offence was out of character.

Inviting the court to impose a financial penalty he said it was unlikely Jones would find himself before a court again.
