Corwen,North Wales - 'Out of control' Denbighshire drunk jailed after taking a knife to friend's house

Gerard Duffy, 53, of Sun Terrace, Glyndyfrdwy, Corwen, was said to have been in an 'utter rage' following a minor disagreement

A man who took a knife to a friend’s home and left him wounded after a fight was jailed for two and a half years.
Gerard Duffy, 53, of Sun Terrace, Glyndyfrdwy, Corwen, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court for sentencing after being convicted in December of unlawful wounding and possessing a knife.
Judge Niclas Parry said Duffy, who had previous convictions for manslaughter and rape, was “a very, very dangerous man – once”.
Defence barrister Duncan Bould said: “He is a different man now.”
Mr Bould said the victim, Neil Marshall, had been injured in a struggle on the floor, but that he was now looking after the defendant’s home and cat.
Addressing Duffy, Judge Parry said: “You have clearly been a dangerous man. The worrying feature of this case is that, in drink, you were so out of control of your senses you attended the front door of your closest - if only - friend carrying a knife.
“You were in utter rage due to a minor disagreement between you. When your friend opened the door, he and his son put you to the floor.
"The wound was mercilessly a minor one. He accepts the wounding could have been caused in a struggle.”
The judge said that, for most of the last 10 years, Duffy had been convicted mainly of minor offences because of his alcohol dependency.
He ordered Duffy not to physically approach the victim as part of a two-year restraining order, but only by letter or telephone. He also ordered the forfeiture of the knife.
