The judge labelled her behaviour 'disgraceful'
An angry mum shouted, swore and verbally abused another parent in front of horrified mums, dads and children at a primary school.
Eloise Hinkinson, 45, from Pontypridd, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour and was given a slap on the wrist by a judge at Cardiff Crown Court .
Judge Eleri Rees told the defendant: “This was disgraceful behaviour.”
The court heard the incident occurred at a primary school in Beddau around 4pm on April 21 last year.
Prosecutor Andrew Davies said Hinkinson had known the complainant Lucy Williams for about two years, as their children went to school together.
'Bad mother'
He said they were “friendly” until a disagreement at Hawthorn Leisure Centre about two months before the incident.
The court heard the defendant shouted at her son not to play with Ms Williams’ boy, leading to a confrontation between them.
Prosecutors said Hinkinson called her former friend a “bad mother” and “a slag”, as other parents asked her to watch her language.
Mr Davies said the argument ended in the defendant calling the complainant, who was pregnant with twins at the time, “a c***”.
In a victim impact statement, Ms Williams said she was offended by the behaviour.
The prosecutor said: “Her son started asking what certain words meant.”
'Did not cover herself in glory'
Hinkinson admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, but denied the offence was racially aggravated, as was initially alleged by prosecutors.
Stephen Thomas, defending, said: “There are two sides to every incident. The complainant, on this occasion, did not cover herself in glory either.”
He said his client lost her temper because she thought she had seen Ms Williams strike her son and was suffering pain from sciatica.
The court heard the single mum-of-two, from Maesteg Gardens in Tonteg, Pontypridd , works part-time as a delivery driver, as well as volunteering at a play group and caring for her family.
Mr Thomas said: “She apologised immediately to other parents at the scene for her language.
“She is very sorry for what she did and bitterly regrets her behaviour.”
He added: “This offence was completely out of character for her – this was very much an isolated incident.”
'Unpleasant scene'
Judge Rees imposed a five-year restraining order and a two-year conditional discharge.
She said: “This was a very unpleasant scene outside a school, in front of children – including your own child – and other children’s parents.”
The judge added: “The use of language and the anger that was being demonstrated was totally unacceptable.”
Hinkinson must pay £800 in costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
The judge said: “Make sure this is the last time we see you in the crown court.”
