Queensferry,North Wales - Flintshire man bit ex-partner's nose and smashed car windows with plant pot in row over text message

David Anthony Smith, 28, of Mancot who later warned police he would kill himself, has admitted affray, assault and criminal damage

An angry passenger grabbed and shook the steering wheel of his ex-partner’s car as she drove him to pick up his work clothes.
Flintshire magistrates’ court at Mold heard how David Anthony Smith was ranting at Amy Gill as she took him to her house.
When they later went back to his home the 28-year-old punched her in the mouth in the car outside and “put his whole mouth around her nose and bit it” leaving her fearing it would be ripped from her face.
He was said to have gone “absolutely mad” when he saw a message on her phone from a male friend despite her assurance there was nothing going on.
When he left she was so terrified she locked herself in the car – but he smashed the windows with a plant pot, showering her with glass.
The victim sounded her horn repeatedly hoping someone would call the police.
When police arrived they found Smith “out of control” inside his mother’s house in Mancot with his former partner.
He had a knife and warned officers if they came near he would kill himself and it is alleged he shouted “if you come near me I will stab you and then myself.”
However he put the knife down and was detained.
Smith, of Mancot Way, Mancot, admitted affray, assault and criminal damage and was remanded in custody to be sentenced at Mold Crown Court next month.
Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told how the couple’s relationship had come to an end before Christmas and on Sunday evening, January 15, she was at a friend’s house when the defendant knocked on the door and said he wanted his work clothes. She agreed to take him to her home to get them.
But he got irate during the journey and at one stage shook the steering wheel as she drove.
David Matthews, defending, said his client worked full-time as a machine operator in a local business and would lose his job if he was remanded in custody.
But a bail application was rejected. An application for a pre-sentence report was granted.
