An angry passenger grabbed the steering wheel and shook it as his ex-partner drove.
David Anthony Smith was ranting at her after she agreed to drive him to her home to pick up his work clothes.
After they returned to his home he assaulted her in the car outside, striking her to the face and biting her to the nose.
When he left she was so terrified that she locked herself in the car for safety. But he smashed the windows with a plant pot, covering her with glass.
The victim sounded her horn repeatedly hoping that someone would call the police.
When police did later arrive they found him inside his mother’s house in Mancot with his former partner.
He had a knife and warned officers if they came near he would kill himself.
At one stage it was alleged he shouted “if you come near me I will stab you and then myself”.
Smith was said to have been “out of control”.
It was alleged that as she walked towards the door to leave the house, he raised the knife and said “you are going nowhere” but Flintshire Magistrates’ Court at Mold was told that she was not scared for her own safety at that stage and honestly thought he was going to kill himself.
Smith, 28, of Mancot Way in Mancot, admitted affray, assault and criminal damage and was remanded in custody to be sentenced at Mold Crown Court next month.
David Matthews, defending, said his client worked full time as a machine operator in a local business and would lose his job if he was remanded in custody. But a bail application was rejected.
The incident occurred at Mancot on Sunday.
Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told how the relationship between the defendant and Amy Gill came to an end before Christmas and on Sunday evening she was at a friend’s house when the defendant knocked on the door and said he wanted his work clothes. She agreed to take him to her home to get them.
But he got irate during the journey and at one stage shook the steering wheel as she drove.
Later he was said to have gone “absolutely mad” when he saw a message on her phone from a male friend despite her assurance that there was nothing going on.
Back outside his home he was shouting and screaming. She was scared and began sounding her horn.
He punched her to the mouth causing a cut to the lip, he smashed her phone, and grabbed her by the hair before biting her to the nose.
Mrs Jackson said: “He put his whole mouth around her nose and bit it.”
The victim thought he was going to rip it from her face.
She held her hand on the horn as he put his arm around her neck and after a struggle she managed to get out and went to seek help.He was screaming at her to get into the house, she refused, and when he went towards the house she got into the car and locked herself in.
But then she realised he had taken the ignition keys.
The court heard how he then returned with a plant pot and smashed the rear window, the windscreen and the driver’s window, covering her with glass.
He had calmed down completely before the police arrived and apologised and was trying to clean her up.
But he became angry again when police arrived and he made threats to kill himself and to stab officers.
However he put the knife down and was detained.
David Matthews, defending, said it was clearly a serious incident.
It was accepted that the judge may not feel that the magistrates’ court was a suitable venue to deal with the events of last Sunday.
But there were issues which needed to be addressed, he said.
His application for a pre-sentence report was granted.
