A MAN who arranged a test-ride of a motorbike then beat up the owner at stole the machine has been jailed — but his accomplice remains at large.
Swansea Magistrates Court heard that Larry Alan Black telephoned the victim and asked about buying his motorbike.
He then drove to his house in the Brynmill area with another man, and asked to rest out the machine.
Sharon Anderson, prosecuting, said Black's accomplice got on the bike, with Black and the victim following him in the car.
The court heard that as the accomplice rode the motorbike around Uplands the victim became increasingly concerned about what was happening, with the bike's owner asking Black: "He's not going to do a dodgy on me, is he?"
When the bike and car eventually stopped Black attacked his passenger, punching him eight or 10 times in the head.
The court heard the victim managed to get out of the car, and tried to snatch the keys from the ignition of the bike — but Black attacked him again. The man on the bike then rode off, and Black got back into the car and drove away.
The stolen bike was later found at the rear of properties in Gwynedd Avenue in Townhill.
Black, aged 30, of Myrddin Gardens, Bonymaen, pleaded guilty to common assault, and to theft of a motorbike on December 21 when he appeared in custody before justices. He also pleaded guilty to assaulting his partner on December 22, an attack which had seen him punching the woman in the face a number of times.
The court heard Black has an "extensive criminal history", and following his arrest for the assault and theft charges had been recalled to prison to serve the remainder of a previously imposed five year sentence for attempted robbery.
Simon Howell, for Black, said his defendant had been in a "state of turmoil" at the time of the offences due to relationship troubles, and had "little recollection" of events.
The solicitor added that Black was hoping to launch his own business as a painter and decorator, and to that end was booked in to take his driving test on January 9.
For each of the assaults Black was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, both to run consecutively making a total of 24 weeks. He was also sentenced to four weeks for the theft, which will run concurrently with the 24 weeks.
The court heard the man who rode the bike away has not yet been found by police.
