Robert Rowlands, 30, of Holyhead left Steven Condra with the "nasty injury" following an incident outside a pub last year, a court heard

A man bit off part of another man’s ear after a row over a drinks bill, a court heard.
Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing told Caernarfon Crown Court that Robert Rowlands, 30, of Rowland Street, Holyhead had been drinking with Steven Condra and Terence Wray at the Dublin Packet in the town on June 18 last year.
The group of drinkers had started talking about money and the possibility of splitting the bill before an argument started.
Ms Downing said Rowlands had then “grabbed Mr Wray’s glasses and left the pub” to walk towards another pub, The Blossoms.
She said Mr Condra then walked after Rowlands and shouted that he wanted his friend’s glassses.
Ms Downing said Rowlands had grabbed Mr Wray’s shirt and was “throwing punches.”
She said Rowlands had then told Mr Condra: “I am going to f***ing kill you. I am going to bite your ear off.”
She said Mr Condra had then “felt instant pain” and returned to the Dublin Packet pub and “felt a piece of his ear was missing”.

'Nasty injury'

She said Mr Condra subsequently needed five stitches from doctors to repair his ear and his hand was also put in a cast.
Ms Downing said Mr Condra, a former doorman, had been left anxious after the attack and described Rowlands, who admitted wounding and the theft of the glasses, as “an extremely strong and powerful man”.
Sarah Griffin defending said: “It is a clearly nasty injury,” adding that Rowlands had mental health issues.
Addressing Rowlands, who was accompanied in court by his mother, Judge Geraint Rowlands said: “There was no justification at all for what you did.”
The judge said he wanted to protect the public from Rowlands potentially “lashing out” in the future and help him to get treatment for his mental illness
The judge sentenced Rowlands to a total of 15 months suspended for two years and ordered him to take part in a 12-month mental health programme and 30 days rehabilitation.
The Judge said: “It’s make or break time for you now; it really is.”
