Flowers, check. Dress, check. Rings, check. But what about the bouncers?
A security boss has lifted the lid on the latest wedding trend - booking bouncers for the big day.
Nigel Butfield has worked in the security industry for over 15 years.
He says his firm, Echelon Security Limited, is now increasingly providing security at weddings.
The reasons he is hired include:
- Protecting the wedding from uninvited guests, usually ex-partners
- To guard against wedding crashers
- To look after the gifts
- To protect the venue itself from damage
- To look after a couple's home while they are on their honeymoon (because hundreds of people know they are away)
- Car park management at the venue
His staff can be overt (visible) or covert (plain clothes) and he can even provide close protection officers for celebs (or wannabe celebs).
'Smooth as possible'
Nigel started his own firm last year and says he has been used by a number of South Wales venues.
One venue, just outside Swansea, hired him because they needed a security presence following incidents of alcohol-fuelled fighting and guests helping themselves from the bar.
They had also had instances where guests brought their own alcohol, contravening their licence.

But he is also hired because of concerns from the happy couple.
Mr Butfield said: “Many brides have been planning this special day for years and want it to go as smoothly as possible.
“If something is going to go wrong, it’s a case of stopping it beforehand, or dealing with the situation quietly and as quickly as possible so the special day is not spoilt.”
For the hotels, it can also mean protection for the venue, event stewards and security for car parking and looking after marquees.
'I want to expand'
He has seen a rise in the number of enquiries from Swansea, Cardiff and Neath.
“I would really like to get into the bigger wedding venues around South Wales,” he said.
