AN 18-year-old has been jailed for three years after his 10th conviction for house burglary.
Ryan Seaman was warned by a crown court judge that unless he changed his ways the sentences would simply get longer and longer from now on.
Seaman, of Maes y Dre, Mold , admitted a house burglary where the ignition keys to a VW Tiguan parked in the driveway were taken.
Mold Crown Court heard how initially the owner believed the keys had simply been mislaid.
But it was later found that the vehicle was dirty and damaged, there was a smell of smoking inside, and the fuel tank was nearly empty.
The owner said it looked like it had been “driven through a field”.
Prosecutor David Mainstone said Seaman had been captured on CCTV driving the vehicle at various locations that night including at a local garage.
The owner’s bank card had been taken and used on five occasions, including two at a local off licence, using the contactless system.
Seaman – wh hit the headlines in January when he took a mobility scooter and did “donuts” on it in front of a local school – admitted burglary at Bryn Park in Mold, aggravated vehicle taking, fraudulently using the bank card, and trying to steal from two other vehicles nearby between January 23 and January 26.
Judge Geraint Walters told him: “Burglary in houses is not just about the value of the property you steal. It makes people feel scared to live in their own homes. That is why it is always treated seriously.”
Mr Mainstone said it was believed the car may have been unlocked, the owner’s purse containing bank cards and a spare house key had been taken, and the ignition keys then taken from the kitchen worktop during the burglary.
The victim had been left feeling scared and nervous.
Simon Mills, defending, said his client still had his whole life ahead of him and there was time for him to change.
He was realistic, appreciated it had to be custody, had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and wanted to get his head down and serve his sentence.
Mr Mills said: “He accepts his responsibility. He has not tried to put any sob stories forward.”
After the latest sentence, Detective Inspector Jon Salisbury-Jones said: “Pursuing offenders like Seaman who harm our communities, and bringing them to justice is a priority for my officers in Flintshire.”
