POLICE have warned tradesmen to be vigilant following a number of thefts from vans.
Wrexham Town District Inspector Simon Kneale said there had been a ‘higher than average’ number of thefts of tools from inside vans over the weekend, when four vans were broken into and equipment stolen from inside.
Insp Kneale said: “These vans have been parked outside houses on private streets rather than on industrial premises, but there’s no pattern to the actual areas, they were all over.
“We would just urge people, especially if they are taking a work vehicle home, to make it clear that there is nothing held within the vehicle and to maximise any securitymeasures that they can.”
Insp Kneale added that the four thefts over the weekend had all been committed some time during the night and urged anybody who sees anything suspicious around vans or work premises at night to contact the police.
He also warned any potential customers to be wary of people selling equipment, especially power tools, adding: “If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is.”
House to house enquiries are now ongoing and CCTV evidence is being reviewed to catch the thieves.
