TWO people have been sentenced for drug possession — after an officer looked out of the window of his police station and saw them acting suspiciously.
Swansea Magistrates' Court heard that Shauna Katie Underhill and Richard Mark Davies were among a group of people "huddled" in the doorway of the Integrated Offender Intervention Service building on Grove Place in the city centre when they came to the attention of an officer in Swansea Central police station, which is just across the road.
Officers went to investigate, and members of the group were searched.
Davies was found to be in possession of a foil wrap of heroin and 28 Valium tablets, while Underhill had 120 Valium tablets still in their in boxes.
In her police subsequent interview, Underhill said she took between 10 and 15 Valium tablets at a time "to make myself feel normal".
Davies, aged 29, of The Strand in Swansea city centre, and 22-year-old Underhill — formerly of Eaton Crescent, Uplands, but now of Carlton Terrace, Mount Pleasant — both pleaded guilty to possession charges when they appeared before the district judge sitting at magistrates' court.
Ian Hopkins, for Davies, said his client was "on the periphery" of drug use, and had recently been given a prescription for a heroin substitute and "things are on-course for a life without drugs".
Dan Heard, for Underhill, said his client had mental health issues and had began self-medicating with street Valium before becoming addicted.
Davies was fined £75 for each of the two possession charges, and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 surcharge.
