A 30-year-old man has been sent to prison for twelve months for downloading child porn on his computer, including images of an extreme nature.
Mr Recorder Peter Griffiths QC told Glen Roberts at Caernarfon crown court that the aggravating feature was the very young age of some of the children exploited in the images.
Roberts, of Kinmel Avenue, Abergele, pleaded guilty to twelve charges.
Richard Edwards, prosecuting, said that in a police raid on his home last June 147 still images, including 18 of the worst kind, were discovered, and 182 videos, 53 of which were of the most extreme category.
Ages of the children ranged from two and a half to 16.
Gwyndaf Pari, defending, said the defendant had started viewing porn because of physical and social isolation factors. “His family wish to assist him to turn his life around,” he added, and he had made genuine attempts to seek help for his problem.
There was real remorse and he urged a three-year community order to enable him to be helped by the probation service with intensive programmes, and at the same time ensure the public was protected.
But the judge said: “It’s impossible for me to avoid an immediate custodial sentence.”
Roberts was placed on the sex offenders’ register and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order was made, both for ten years.
