Blaenau Ffestiniog,North Wales - Lamb shot with 'crossbow' near Blaenau Ffestiniog farm

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack on 'Lucky' who miraculously survived the neck injury

A farmer has told how one of his lambs has been shot through the neck in an apparent ‘crossbow’ attack.
The little lamb, who looks set to be named “Lucky”, was attacked with a crossbow or similar weapon but miraculously survived.
Farmer David Thomas said his brother discovered the injured animal, soaked in blood, while out inspecting the flock near the Blaenau Ffestiniog farm.
It was clear Lucky had been attacked by someone with a hole “straight through” his neck.
Mr Thomas, 50, contacted North Wales Police’s rural crime team.
He said: “There was a hole going underneath his throat, right through to the other side, it was horrid.
“You could tell he had been shot by a crossbow or something similar.

“But he has pulled through and really made a full recovery.
“We gave him some antibiotics and some anti-inflammatories and he’s really shocked us how well he was.
“We’re very surprised but thrilled, he’s a lucky boy.
“We haven’t got a name for him yet but I think it’s going to have to be lucky.”
Lucky will not now face the butcher’s knife, with Mr Thomas deciding to keep him around the farm.
He added: “I hope we can track down whoever did this, it’s disgraceful for someone to attack a lamb like this, I’ve never known anything like it.”

PC Dewi Evans of the rural crime team said: “The farmer came to Blaenau Ffestiniog police station at about 6pm on Saturday (April 23) with the lamb, who was in a poor state.
“We originally thought the lamb would not make it, so it is great to hear he’s back to full health.”
PC Evans branded the attack shocking.
He added: “It’s sad that something like can happen in this day and age within our community.
“The fact someone would cause such injury and suffering to a lamb for no reason is shocking.”
Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to contact North Wales Police on 101 quoting reference number RM 16006764.
