A RHYL teenager who brandished a meat cleaver at a man he accused of being a “grass” has been told that if he were an adult he would be sent to prison.
The 17-year-old pleaded guilty at Prestatyn youth court to causing £200 worth of damage to the victim’s car, possessing an offensive weapon and possessing cannabis.
Prosecutor Nia Lloyd said the youth approached Wayne Jones in Meliden and told him “I’m going to burn your house down”.
He went to a nearby house and returned with a meat cleaver, telling Mr Jones “You‘re going to get it. Your time is coming.”
Mr Jones, who was sitting in his car at the time, closed the window.
Craig Hutchinson, defending, said the teenager believed Mr Jones had been responsible for his car being towed away.
He was made subject of a two-year youth rehabilitation order with supervision and ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work. H must also pay Mr Jones £200 in compensation, court costs of £85 and a £20 surcharge.
Chairman Isfryn Williams told him that had he been 18, as he would soon be, he would have received a three-year sentence, especially as it was his third conviction for possessing an offensive weapon.
