Darren Thomas, 40, was caught struggling to climb out of an attic window with the tights pulled over his shoes in an attempt to avoid leaving footprints.
A court heard serial burglar Thomas had smashed his way into the house in Cowbridge.
He then rifled through the family's possessions before trying to climb out of a skylight while wearing the child's tights.
