CAERNARFON residents have been warned to report anything suspicious after a spate of burglaries.
North Wales Police have stepped up patrols and urged everyone to be vigilant, ensure doors and windows are secured and valuables are hidden from view after a number of incidents in the town.
Sergeant Ian Roberts, of Community Safety in Caernarfon, said: “We would like to remind you of quick and easy steps to keep your home and belongings secure.
“Take a few extra seconds to check that you have closed and locked all doors and windows each time you leave your home.
“Remove valuable items from view if possible.
“If you feel particularly vulnerable please call 101 and request a free home security survey by your local PCSO.
“Fortunately this type of crime is not common in the area but patrols will be stepped up in order to reassure the community.”
The town’s PCSOs will carry out an anti-walk-in burglary operation in the coming weeks.
They will patrol the area and if they see any insecure property, such as open ground floor windows or doors, they will warn the owners or leave specially-designed leaflets.
Officers hope the strategy will reinforce the message of how important it is to lock windows and doors and keep valuables out of sight.
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “It’s hard to believe but the truth is that most local incidents occur as a result of doors and windows being left open, which was the case with the recent burglaries.”
Anyone with information on the recent incidents can contact police 101, or anonymously viat Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
