A young father convicted of killing his two-month-old baby son is also a convicted sex attacker.
Sean Michael Mullender, 23, had been looking after Daniel John when he shook him, fracturing nine of his ribs and causing “traumatic” head injuries including brain damage and bleeding.
Daniel died two days after his father had run into the street seeking the help of a neighbour in October 2014.
As he was jailed for eight years for killing the baby, it also emerged that he was a convicted sex offender.
He was given a suspended prison sentence after sexually assaulting a teenage girl in 2011.
Judge Mrs Justice Nicola Davies told the court during sentencing that Mullender was given a 52-week youth custody sentence – suspended for two years – and placed under supervision.
He was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years, the Daily Post reported.
The court also heard that Mullender had attended court six times between 2010 and 2015 for a total of 11 offences.
Following his arrest in relation to baby Daniel, a risk assessment was carried out on Mullender.
It found that he posed a “high risk of serious or significant harm to children” and a “medium risk of serious harm to intimate partners”.
It also emerged Mullender was jailed while on bail for the killing of his son for stealing from his aunt.
While waiting to be sentenced for killing his son, Mullender, of Bryn Lane, Connah’s Quay, had married the baby's mother, Fiona Templeton.
But the couple are now divorcing.
In a statement the family said they now have “justice” for baby Daniel’s death and hope to begin to rebuild their lives.
It read: “The sudden and unexpected loss of Daniel in these circumstances has had a devastating impact on our family.
“The result at court today will never bring Daniel back; he will be missed by every single member of our family and never does a day go by when he isn’t in our thoughts.
“He is, and always will be a massive part of our family and we will never forget him.”
