A pensioner has been arrested after a 49-year-old man died after being struck by a car in an alleged hit and run incident.
A South Wales Police spokesman confirmed a 70-year-old man from Porth had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving following the fatality on Thursday night.
The force had issue an appeal for information to trace the driver involved in the collision in Llwynypia , Rhondda.
A 49-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by a car outside The Ifor Hael Hotel in Salem Terrace around 11.15pm on Thursday night.
In an earlier appeal South Wales Police said the car involved would have damage to its front.
A spokesman for the force said: "A direct appeal is being made to the driver and any other occupants of a small hatchback car which failed to stop after colliding with the male to come forward.
"The vehicle will have front-end damage and members of the public are asked to contact police if they hold any information which could assist the investigation."
The next of kin of the man have been informed and are being supported by a family liaison officer.
The road was closed overnight for five hours while investigations took place and police said they would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding.
