Paige King, 21, was devastated to find French bulldog Nala had been dog-napped from her Cardiff home
A tiny puppy was stolen by a burglar while a new mum was in hospital giving birth.
Paige King, 21, said she was “heartbroken” to return to her Cardiff home from hospital to discover her four-month-old French bulldog Nala was stolen.
The mum – who had to leave newborn son Blake in hospital for treatment to an infection – burst into tears at the dognapping.
She left Nala at home with her other dog being looked after by a friend while she dashed to hospital to have her baby.
'I just broke down crying straight away'
Cinema usher Paige, from Llanrumney , Cardiff, said: “I came back home around 1am but we couldn’t get in because someone had pulled the chain across the door from inside.
“We eventually managed to get in around the back door, and then I saw my puppy’s cage empty.
“My other French bulldog, who’s 14 months old, was looking very scared.
“I just broke down crying straight away. I was heartbroken. After everything that happened in hospital the day before it was too much for me.”
The thief also stole her boyfriend Thomas Coleman’s Playstation and his watch in the break-in at Weston Road.
'She is so nervous around people... her heart is probably racing'
She said: “A friend had been looking after the dogs while I was in hospital but left them in the night because I was due home.
“I can’t believe someone is that desperate and would steal my gorgeous girl. She is so nervous around people, her heart is probably racing and petrified.”
Baby Blake, born on Tuesday is being treated for low blood sugar levels at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant .
Paige is at her son’s bedside “day and night” – and cannot find the time to hunt for her puppy.
Paige said: “People in the area know I have French bulldogs, but no one seems to have a clue who took her.
“Anyone who knows anything, I ask them to please let me know. I just want her home.”
She has launched a Facebook campaign to find the puppy – and it has already been shared 5,000 times.
