A TERRIFYING axe raid on a convenience store left three workers petrified.
A police hunt is under way after a man armed with a hatchet stole cash from the till at the Abbey Premier store in Abenbury Road, Wrexham, shortly after 6am yesterday.
Store owner Mark Trubshaw said the raid left the three staff members on duty at the time badly shaken up.
He said: “Obviously everyone is shaken up. Luckily we had three staff members on at the time but it was just terrifying really. For what they got away with it was not worth it.
"We haven’t counted the money in the till yet but they didn’t get away with much because we had only been open for about an hour.
“Police are looking at the CCTV footage and hopefully they will find something to bring whoever did this to justice. We have had forensic officers here all morning and CID have been out as well.”
Mr Trubshaw said it was not the first time his store has been targeted by thieves.
In December 2013, raiders wearing motorbike helmets struck and they terrified shop staff before making off with cash.
He added: “We have got a lot of safety measures in place because the staff’s welfare is the main priority. They have all been upset by this and fingers crossed police will identify the suspect and take action against him.”
No one was hurt during the latest incident and the offender left on foot with an unknown amount of cash.
The suspect is described as white, aged about 20 and 5ft 6ins tall.
The man was wearing black clothing, including a hooded top, and of slight build, according to police.
Detective inspector Lee Boycott, of North Wales Police, appealed for information about the raid.
He said: “I am appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen this man before or soon after the incident, to come forward. I am also appealing to anyone who has information which may help our investigation to contact police on 101 quoting reference S172058.”
