A man who slashed a man who tried to break up a row in Blaenau Ffestiniog has been jailed.
Carl Martin Brennan, 31, left his victim with a 15cm long cut to his arm after attacking him with what was believed to be a Stanley knife or similar weapon.
At the end of a four-day trial at Caernarfon Crown Court, he was sentenced to five years for the street attack.
His victim, Mark Alan Roberts, was attacked as he tried to break up a row between Brennan, formerly of Cromwell Street in Blaenau Ffestiniog, and his girlfriend Joanne Brotherton.
He was heard to have shouted " Bring me the hardest man in Blaenau " during the incident, which happened at around 3am on June 8 last year.
He will have to serve half of his sentence in custody.
Investigating officer DC Gareth Jones said: " I am pleased that the court has sent such a strong message that violent crime , especially involving weapons, is totally unacceptable and won’t be tolerated. The public can be reassured that North Wales Police will always pursue such crimes robustly."
