Dyfed Powys Police want to speak to a man who was in fancy dress in connection with the attack, which happened at the Academy bar in Aberystwyth

A man has described the horrifying moment a massive chunk of his ear was bit off during a sickening assault in a pub in Aberystwyth.
Gwynant Jones’s fun Halloween night out with friends turned into a nightmare when he fell victim what police described as a “vicious and unprovoked attack” at the town’s Academy bar last Saturday.
Investigators now want to speak to a man in fancy dress - and accompanied by three women, one wearing a nurse’s outfit and a mask - in connection with the incident.
Gwynant, from Machynlleth, was out celebrating a friend’s birthday when the assault happened.
Speaking today, the 25 year-old software engineer said his ear was “still throbbing” after being bit off during the incident.

He added: “It has been painful and it’s still an odd feeling.
“What I’m left asking is why did it happen to me?
“It was obviously a shock.
“I didn’t realise how much of my ear had gone at first until somebody told me: ‘quite a lot’.
“There’s no point thinking too much about it.
“The only thing going around in my mind is why?”
Gwynant, who now lives in Manchester, is taking antibiotics and paracetamol to deal with the pain.
He has been told he’ll have to wait between six to eight months before has healed enough to undergo an operation.
Doctors have told him that his ear will have to be reconstructed using cartilage from one of his own ribs.
Gwynant said his ear was ripped off with so much force during the incident that his whole body was “pulled down.”

Messages of support

He also said that blood managed to seep into his ear during the attack which has since affected his hearing.
“I’ll have to get it out with a syringe when I have my stitches out,” he added.
Dyfed-Powys Police said that the man they want to speak to in connection with the incident was wearing an orange poncho and a black wig.
He is described as being white and aged about 20.
Since the incident, Gwynant has been wearing a hat on his head to cover his ear.
Although there was nobody available from the Academy bar to comment today, Gwynant said he wanted to thank the staff for helping to look after him in the aftermath
