Claims that stinking human excrement was sloshed onto cars along a main road toAberystwyth has prompted calls for an investigation.
The waste was being transported by tractor between Capel Bangor and Clarach last week, when it is said to have been splashing onto nearby cars and the street as it passed.

Witnesses sought

Ceredigion Council is now investigating the matter and has urged witnesses to come forward.
Furious residents from miles away have described living with a “dreadful” smell for much of last week .
The tractor was pulling a trailer between Bow Street and Clarach.

Stench 'unlike slurry'

Yvonne O’Donovan, of Blaen Ddôl, a row of houses along a particularly badly affected part of the rout told the Cambrian News she was alerted to the smell by her husband when he came home from work at 4.30pm, and even a trip to town didn’t allow them to escape the stench.
“We parked up on the promenade in Aberystwyth and went for a walk, and when we came back, the car was stinking.
“I am a farmer’s daughter and it doesn’t smell like slurry, it smells like human waste.
“The smell is still on the car and I saw something on Facebook which said people’s cars were still smelling even after washing them.

Health fears

“If it is human excrement, it is unhealthy. I think whoever is responsible should compensate people for having their cars cleaned.”
Another man, Thomas Scarrott, director of Clarach Bay Holiday Village, said the smell was engulfing the his driveway.
“It smells like human excrement,” he added.
A Ceredigion Council spokesman said: “The Council has investigated reports of a slurry-like substance deposited on the public highway in this locality.

Cleanup operation carried out

“The highway has been cleaned and the council is consulting with National Resources Wales and Dyfed Powys Police regarding the incident.
“Any information from the public relating to the matter would be gratefully received and will be used to help the agencies with their further and ongoing enquiries.”
