Cardiff,South Wales - Woman's body found in Cardiff flat after neighbours say they reported a smell eight weeks ago

A woman's body was found in the flat in the Adamsdown area on Thursday

A woman's body has been found in flat in Cardiff after neighbours claimed they reported a smell coming from the property around eight weeks ago.
South Wales Police was called to a ground floor flat at Anderson Place in Adamsdown at around 2pm on Thursday following concerns from neighbours.
After arriving at the scene, officers discovered a woman's body.
Neighbours said they believe the body had been there for some time.
One resident in the block of flats - who asked not to be named - claimed they had reported the smell to Cardiff council around eight weeks ago.
This was denied by Cardiff council who said it had not received a complaint regarding a smell from the property before the body was found.
The neighbour said: "The smell was reported about eight weeks ago, but nothing was done.
Police were called to the flat in Adamsdown
"The smell was really bad - it had been for some time."
A statutory nuisance notice has been left on the door of the property, dated February 17, 2017.
Neighbours say the woman - believed to be in her thirties or forties - moved into the flat last October.
"She hadn't been here for very long though, so I didn't really know her," one neighbour said.
"She never really spoke to anyone - she kept herself to herself."
Another concerned resident said: "I've got flowers. I've got daffodils. But we don't know her name and I would just put a name to the card.
Flowers have been left outside the flat
"It would be nice to have a name. Nobody has a clue. We've got flowers but we don't know a name to put on them."
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Police were called to a flat in Adamsdown Place, Cardiff, following the discovery of a woman’s body at the address at approximately 2pm on Thursday, 9 March, 2017.
"The body has not yet been formally identified however contact has been made with relatives of a woman linked to the address.
"An investigation is under way to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death which at this stage is being treated as unexplained, but is not thought to be suspicious.
"The Coroner has been informed."
A Cardiff council spokesman said: "The City Council didn’t receive any complaints in relation to a smell coming from the property until the body was discovered recently.
"The notice issued to (the flat) related to the council being unable to access the property to carry out the annual gas service. Following the notice being issued, the council followed procedure by applying for a warrant from the Magistrates Court to get access into the property.
"As the tenant didn’t respond to the council - running in parallel with this initial enquiry – we also served a further notice on the property as we thought it was abandoned . As part of this process, when the notice period ended, the council was able to gain entry to change the locks.

"When officers arrived at the property to carry out this work, the body was found and it was reported immediately to the South Wales Police. The City Council didn’t receive any complaints relating to the smell prior to the body being found. Once the body was removed a tenant reported a strong smell and our cleaning team visited the block of flats within hours and cleaned all of the communal areas with disinfectant.”
