Newport,South Wales - Man critically ill after being found unconscious on Newport street

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward

Police have issued an appeal after a 41-year-old man was found critically ill in Newport .
Gwent Police said that officers were called at around 11pm on Thursday to reports of a man found unconscious.
It happened in the Keene Street/Cromwell Road area of Newport .
He was found on a pavement in the area and police are still trying to establish what happened.
The South Wales Argus reported residents heard shouting during the night.
One woman told the Argus: "I didn't hear anything, but when I came outside to take the bin out at around 10pm last night, there was a man lying on the road.
"He was really bleeding."
Vicky Davies, 27, told the Argus: "At around 11pm, there were people crying on the street. The guy was lying on the floor, he was not breathing.
The Welsh Ambulance Service said they were called to reports of a medical emergency on Keene Street at 11.15pm.
They sent two emergency ambulances to the scene and an elderly man was taken to hospital.
A police spokeswoman said: "The man has been taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital and is currently in a critical condition."
She added that no arrests had been made.
Gwent Police has cordoned off the area while they carry out an investigation.
They are appealing for anyone who has any information about this incident, to call 101 quoting log 519 12/1/17.
