Colwyn Bay,North Wales - Live: Man killed in Old Colwyn

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and will be quizzed by detectives today

Police focused on two areas

These are two areas North Wales Police are focusing their investigation

'Altercation' in late afternoon

Police were called to Wellington Road at roughly 9pm but have appealed for any witnesses to an ‘altercation’ earlier in the day to come forward.
Detective Inspector Arwyn Jones said:
“We continue to appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard an altercation involving a man and woman in the Bryn Heulog/Wellington Road areas or in Old Colwyn town centre, between late afternoon and approximately 9pm, to come forward.”

Police 'not looking for anyone else'

I have just been told that North Wales Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death last night. A woman, local to the area, remains in custody.

AM 'stunned' by news of death

Darren Millar, AM for Clwyd West, tweets:

Police have increased patrols in the area

North Wales Police have increased their patrols in the area and have advised local councillors that the incident last night was “contained”.

Post mortem not completed

I am told the post mortem has not been completed on David Kingsbury. It has been reported, but it is unconfirmed, that he died of stab wounds.

What we know so far

Here’s what we know about the murder investigation in Old Colwyn:
  • A man was found lying in the street in the Wellington Road area at about 9pm following reports of a ‘disturbance’.
  • Paramedics attempted CPR but the man was declared dead.
  • A woman was arrested near to the scene and remains in police custody.
  • The man has been named as David James Kingsbury, 35. He was known locally as “Divs”.
  • Investigations at the scene continue.

Police confirm name of man killed

The name of the man killed last night has been confirmed as David James Kingsbury, he was 35.

No new information has been released by police at this time. As soon as we find out more I’ll let you know.

Man killed went to Ysgol Bryn Elian

The man who was killed last night, David Kingsbury, went to Ysgol Bryn Elian and was in his 30s. He was a labourer and quite well known locally.

Police are continuing their extensive investigations.

The body of Mr Kingsbury, a labourer, was found near Wellington Road in the village at roughly 9pm.

Arrested woman to be quizzed

The woman arrested by North Wales Police near where the body was found in Old Colwyn will be quizzed by detectives later today.

Remarks from local councillor

Councillor Cheryl Carlisle has told the Daily Post:
“This is a very shocking incident, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones.
“Old Colwyn is a very strong community and will pull together at this very sad time.
“The police have assured us this is a contained incident and are maintaining a high presence to support our community.”

Aldi alley taped off

There are still police in Bodelwyddan Avenue this morning and the alley down side of Aldi remains taped off.

How the man died

At this stage we have not been told how the man died but there are unconfirmed reports he was stabbed to death.

Police appeal for witnesses

Police are keen for anyone who may have seen anything to come forward

Two police cars are in the car park of Aldi this morning but the car park is open, I am told.

Investigation launched

An investigation into the death has been launched by North Wales Police and a woman who is currently in police custody is expected to be quizzed later today.

Crime scene investigators at the scene

Last night there was a heavy police presence after the man was found and police conducted door to door enquiries in the area.

Comment from DCI Andrew Williams

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Williams said:
“HM Coroner is being informed and a post mortem examination will take place in due course.
“I appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard a male and female engaged in an altercation either with each other, or with anyone else, in the areas mentioned or in the Old Colwyn town centre.
“The time period would have been late afternoon to approximately 9pm.”

Man killed and woman arrested

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead in Old Colwyn last night.
Police officers were called to a “disturbance” near Wellington Road at roughly 8.30pm.
