A Denbighshire flat was cordoned off by police following an attempted arson attack.
Officers were called to an address on Victoria Road in Ffrith, near Prestatyn, at around 4.20am this morning after reports of a man trying to set a door to a property alight.
Eyewitnesses reported police tape outside the Bargain Booze store next door and the flat with crime scene investigation officers dressed in white suits scouring the scene for clues.
A North Wales Police spokesman said graffiti scrawled on a wall also forms part of the investigation.
A spokesman said: “Fortunately, no damage was caused and no one was injured but the man fled from the scene prior to police arrival.”
Detective Inspector Iwan Roberts at St Asaph CID said: “North Wales Police are investigating this criminal act and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who saw any suspicious persons or activity, or indeed knows anything about this incident to contact police immediately.
“I’d like to reassure the local community that initial enquiries indicate this is an isolated incident and our investigations are well under way.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting reference RC16152078
