Michael Lewis, 33, of Maes Berea, reversed 'aggressively' into Valeed Choudhry after getting groceries from a shop

A disqualified driver who twice hit a pedestrian when he reversed his girlfriend’s car “aggressively” has been jailed.
Michael Lewis, of Maes Berea, Bangor, admitted driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident and driving while disqualified.
The 33-year-old also pleaded guilty to taking the car without permission and having no valid insurance when he appeared before magistrates at Caernarfon.
He was jailed for 22 weeks, banned from driving for three and a half years, and ordered to pay costs of £200 on his release from prison.
Mel Hughes, prosecuting, told the court the incident happened in Upper Bangor last month.
He said Lewis had been banned from driving in September last year for drug-driving but, at about midday on September 29 this year, he had taken his girlfriend’s blue BMW, driven to Holyhead Road and parked it on the pavement outside a shop.
CCTV footage of the incident showed a delivery van parked very close to the vehicle and, on emerging from the shop with groceries, Lewis got into the car and reversed towards the Rascals cafe.
“The victim, Valeed Choudhry, was crossing the road at the time and was struck by the car and flew backwards, landing on his back," said Mr Hughes.
"Lewis stopped briefly and continued reversing, striking Mr Choudhry again before driving off towards Menai Bridge.”
Passersby went to the aid of Mr Choudhry and an ambulance and police were called.
The court heard Lewis was arrested later at his home after he called police to tell them he had been involved in the incident.
Gareth Parry, defending, said he had reversed using his mirrors only and had not seen Mr Choudhry.
“Clearly he was a disqualified driver and should not have been there," he said.
"After hitting Mr Choudhry, he panicked and drove off.
“He drove back to his home and told his girlfriend what had happened and then phoned a friend in Upper Bangor, who told him the road was closed and the victim was being treated by paramedics.”
The court heard Mr Choudhry suffered severe bruising to the legs, elbows and head and was admitted to Ysbyty Gwynedd for treatment.
Mr Parry added Lewis apologised unreservedly to Mr Choudhry for knocking down and injuring him and not staying at the scene of the accident.
